Regional Perspectives: South and Southeast Asia Rights-Based Development- 4/4 in the HRBA series

📅 Recorded on: 6 November 2025

This webinar marks the fourth and final session in the EU-VALUES series on human rights-based approaches (HRBA) to EU development cooperation. Building on earlier discussions that examined global frameworks as well as regional perspectives from Latin America and Africa, this concluding session turns to South and Southeast Asia. It explores how rights-based approaches are being embedded in national development plans and policies, and how they intersect with regional priorities such as sustainability, gender equality, and social justice. We were delighted to welcome two distinguished speakers:

  • Dr. Miranda P. Tahalele (BINUS University, Indonesia), who discussed “Integrating EU Development Cooperation Policy into Indonesia’s National Development Plan: Challenges and Opportunities.”

  • Mr. Rahul Desarda (O.P. Jindal Global University, India), who presented on “HRBA in India’s Green Transition: Rights, Resettlement, and ‘Just’ Energy.”

The session was moderated by Dr. Philip De Man (KU Leuven) and organised within the framework of the EU-VALUES Jean Monnet Network (EU Research and Education Network on Foreign Policy Issues: Values and Democracy).
